About Professor Jason John Labuschagne

Approach
Professor Jason John Labuschagne is a paediatric neurosurgeon who also performs adult cranial neurosurgery and, with a multidisciplinary team that includes orthopaedic spinal surgeons, adult spinal surgery.
His work centres on careful planning and on using the least invasive approach that will treat each patient safely. Where it helps, this includes neuro-endoscopy, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring and fluorescence-guided tumour surgery. Decisions are made together with patients and parents and, for complex cases, with a multidisciplinary team.
Private Practice
Dr Labuschagne has been in private practice since 2007. Over this time he has practised across the three major private hospital groups as well as independent private hospitals. He currently consults and operates exclusively at Netcare Unitas Hospital in Centurion and at Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg. Appointments at both rooms can be made on 012 664 6026.
Academic
He has led the paediatric neurosurgery unit at Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital since its inception, as Head of Clinical Unit. The unit is a quaternary referral centre for children from Gauteng and neighbouring provinces. He is Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of the Witwatersrand.
The two roles complement each other. Academic work, through teaching, research and the care of complex referrals, keeps his practice current; private practice allows that experience to be brought to individual, continuous and personal care for each patient and family.
