International patients

Welcome to patients and families travelling from elsewhere in Africa and from further abroad who are considering care with Dr Labuschagne.

The practice receives many patients from most of southern and central Africa.

Getting started

Email the rooms at reception.jjlab@gmail.com with a short summary of the condition, a referral letter where you have one, recent MRI or CT reports, and a download link to the images (for example from the imaging centre or a secure file-share). Please also include the patient’s age and weight, and the best contact details for you. You are welcome to phone the rooms on 012 664 6026.

Remote review before travel

Where suitable, Dr Labuschagne can review imaging and records before you travel and give an initial opinion. This helps to decide whether a journey is needed and what to plan for. It is not a substitute for an in-person consultation and examination.

Where treatment happens

Consultations and surgery take place at Netcare Unitas Hospital in Centurion and at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg. Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport is the nearest international airport.

Fees and payment

Self-paying patients and those with international insurance receive a written quote before planned treatment. The hospital may require a deposit or a guarantee of payment from the insurer before admission. Please check cover and payment arrangements with your insurer and with the hospital before you travel.

Travel and visas

Patients and families arrange their own travel and, where needed, visas. The rooms can provide a letter confirming the appointment or planned treatment to support a visa application.

Staying in hospital and nearby

Parents can generally stay overnight with their child in hospital. Parents cannot sleep in the intensive care unit (ICU), but the team aims to accommodate them in the paediatric ward where possible. Longer stays outside hospital should be arranged by the family; nearby hotels and guest houses are available in Centurion and in Johannesburg.

After you go home

A written report is sent to your local doctor. Follow-up can often be arranged by video consultation or with your local team, as appropriate for the condition.

Language

Consultations are in English. If you need another language, please bring a translator with you.
